The school is situated in Woodend township, a growing community, in the Waimakariri District approximately 20 kms north of Christchurch. A decile 8 school, it has an Enrollment Scheme and principally serves Woodend township and surrounding areas of Woodend Beach, Pineacres and Tuahiwi. The learner population of 350 is predominately New Zealand European with 15% New Zealand Maori.

The school has a close liaison with its Katote Cluster Schools; Tuahiwi, Pegasus Bay, Kaiapoi North, Kaiapoi Borough, St Patricks, Ouruhia and Kaiapoi High School and also all contributing Early Education Centres. It accesses the Technology training facilities at Kaiapoi Borough School. The school takes a strong lead in establishing and maintaining a seamless transition for new entrants learners and learners leaving. All learners are welcomed and supported to be successful.
